The beautiful sky-blue color of this herbal infusion is remarkably unique, and surprisingly, it comes from completely natural ingredients. The infusion is also exceptionally refreshing, thanks to the excellent blend of quality herbs and Iyokan, a citrus fruit from the mandarin family known for its juiciness and balance between sweetness and acidity.
‘Iyo’ is the former name of Ehime Prefecture, and ‘kan’ means citrus, so it’s no surprise that Iyokan is a specialty of the region. The family-owned specialized herb company, Ehime Herb, crafts this special herbal infusion. They slowly dry the Iyokan at low temperatures to intensify its sweetness and preserve the color. Additionally, they use quality herbs, including those grown on their own facilities. They then hand-pack the blended infusion, allowing the use of larger pieces and maximizing the character of each ingredient.
This herbal infusion, composed of Iyokan, lemon verbena, butterfly pea, mint, and cornflower, presents a fruity aroma without bitterness or astringency. It’s a caffeine-free beverage, and no artificial flavorings or preservatives are used. Its beautiful color and taste are perfect for enjoying it cold. It comes in 5 individual tea bags.
To prepare this herbal infusion, add one pyramid-shaped bag to cold water (500 ml / 18 oz) and let it steep for about 12 hours in the fridge. After this time, you’ll have an exquisite cold tea where you can enjoy a pleasant Iyokan orange aroma, similar to freshly squeezed citrus juice. Don’t forget to remove the bag once the flavor suits your liking.
You can enjoy the tea for a couple of days. It can be served as is or frozen into cubes to add to your favorite drinks. Another photogenic trick is to add a few drops of lemon juice to the herbal infusion. This will instantly change the sky-blue color to pink!
Although Ehime’s Iyokan cold tea is designed to be made cold, you can also use hot water. In that case, we recommend using a little more water (500-600 ml / 18-20 oz).
